Travel to Wellington

Delegates are responsible for their own travel arrangements to Wellington, New Zealand, including arranging the necessary visas and for paying for flights.

Wellington International Airport only operates flights to and from Australia and Pacific Islands. Therefore you are likely  to fly into New Zealand's other major International airports in Auckland or Christchurch and will need to connect to a domestic flight internally.

There will be a Conference Helpdesk at the airport to direct you to a shuttle service or a taxi to your hotel. This service will be provided by the 5th International Conference of Information Commissioners. Once you have your flights booked, please let us know your ETA and ETD for coordination of ground transfers in Wellington.

Passports & Visas

Please ensure that your passport and visa, if required, is in order. If you are travelling via a third country, for example Australia or the USA, you may also require a transit visa.

Visitors to New Zealand must hold a passport valid for at least three months after the date of departure. You must check whether or not you require a visa. If you do, you must obtain all of your visas in advance before you travel. Obtaining the appropriate visa is delegate's own responsibility. Your registration acceptance letter, which you will receive once you have registered and paid the delegate fee, should be sufficient to prove your need to visit New Zealand.

Please check the information in the visa section carefully to check if you need a visa and how to obtain one if you do. Please note: obtaining visas can take several weeks, so register early.

Arrival in New Zealand: Biosecurity Procedures

The New Zealand Government has very tight biosecurity inspection at all international airports. No food is allowed to be brought into New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand, all international passengers are asked to fill in the declaration. Then all luggage is screened by X-ray and may be physically searched. Detector dogs which can smell food and plant material on people and in bags operate at all airports. There is a fine of NZ$ 200 for any undeclared restricted or prohibited goods found on anyone arriving in New Zealand.
